Description

Sensitivity to histamine varies from person to person, with some individuals being more reactive to histamine and other biogenic amines naturally present in foods. Seeking Health DAO Enzyme (previously known as Histamine Digest) provides the patented DAOgest® (diamine oxidase) enzyme, derived from porcine kidney extract, to help support the natural breakdown of histamine within the digestive system — particularly in the small intestine and colon.

Each capsule offers a convenient way to complement your body’s own DAO activity, helping maintain balance when consuming foods and drinks that may contain higher levels of histamine. DAOgest® is a registered, quality-tested form of diamine oxidase known for its role in histamine metabolism in tissues such as the intestines, kidneys, placenta, and prostate.

Directions

  • When taken with meals, DAO Enzyme helps break down histamine found in foods and drinks. Histamine levels will be at a healthy level, which will help alleviate symptoms associated with histamine intolerance.
  • When taken on an empty stomach, DAO Enzyme helps break down histamine produced by the microbiome or your gut’s immune system.

    • This is a great idea to try: Take 1 capsule of DAO Enzyme on an empty stomach to see if you feel better within 30 minutes.
    Why would this be useful? An unhealthy microbiome or an overactive gut immune system produces high amounts of histamine.

    If you feel better, continue using DAO Enzyme on an empty stomach as needed. DAO Enzyme supports a healthy histamine balance in the gut.


    DAO Enzyme may support healthy levels of histamine within the small intestine, colon, kidneys, uterus, appendix, placenta, prostate, or testicles. This is very important as unhealthy levels of histamine within these areas contribute to problems locally or throughout the body.


    Suggested Use:
    As needed, anytime, take 1 capsule before eating or drinking. Alternatively, as needed, take 1 capsule away from food or drink if wanting to support uterine comfort during the menstrual cycle, occasional nausea from pregnancy or healthy histamine levels in your digestive system. Capsules may be opened and sprinkled on a bite of food. Use as directed by your healthcare professional.

    Children 4 years of age and older may use DAO Enzyme. If they cannot swallow the small capsule, you may need to open it and mix in a bite of applesauce.

    Breastfeeding women may use DAO Enzyme. Histamine gets absorbed from the gut and into breastmilk. If breastmilk has higher levels of histamine, the breastfeeding baby may experience colic. Infant colic is associated with higher levels of histamine. Support healthy levels of histamine in your breastmilk by taking DAO Enzyme.

    Pregnant women may use DAO Enzyme if approved by a healthcare professional.
    Occasional nausea and vomiting during pregnancy are associated with high levels of histamine. Levels of histamine in a healthy pregnancy decrease below values found in healthy non-pregnant women. This is because the placenta is designed to produce a lot of the DAO enzyme. However, sometimes, the levels of histamine exceed the ability of the placenta’s DAO enzyme to digest histamine.

    In some complications of pregnancy, maternal blood histamine levels rise above those associated with a healthy pregnancy. Many of the complications of pregnancy, including preeclampsia, preterm labour, spontaneous abortion, and hyperemesis gravidarum, are associated with increased levels of maternal blood histamine. Supporting healthy levels of maternal blood histamine during pregnancy, especially during these complications, may be helpful.

    Definitely helps
    Even though it's expensive, I find this DAO helpful with MCAS symptoms for amine intolerance. I do notice that you need to take it at least 20 min ahead of eating as has been recommended to me.

    Have been using this for several years and it works. Hormone fluctuations exacerbate my histamine issues, brought on by childhood mild exposure. I still follow a low histamine, organic diet but some days I need the added DAO support.

    It works
    I have histamine intolerance and this product taken before meals has taken away issues such as [condition removed], stomach upsets and general discomfort. In turn I digest food better and reap the benefits of feeling less tired. My only criticism is that it's too expensive.

    For anyone who has suffered the awful effects of low DAO and resulting histamine overload, you’ll do just about anything to relieve it. Yes, this is expensive and a porcine product, but it has been instrumental in reducing accidental histamine exposure or increased susceptibility from hormone fluctuations and resulting gut issues. I live a low histamine lifestyle and reading Dr Lynch’s book (the man behind the Seeking Health supplements) gave me great insight into understanding and managing histamine and other issues.

    Very helpful
    This supplement (diamine oxidase) is not readily available in Australia, thank you Return 2 Health for stocking it. This is people with histamine intolerance due to a deficiency of diamine oxidase, which removes excess histamines from the food we eat. Taken with a low histamine diet it can be a life changer. Histamine intolerance symptoms are varied and in my case debilitating - [conditions removed] and more. I've also been taking ProBiota HistaminX and there is improvement, after years of illness. I couldn't get a diagnosis from doctors but after searching I found a naturopath who is helping me.
